Flags were once crafted from natural fibers. Think cotton and wool. By the mid-20th century, our society turned to synthetics — new technology that came mass produced. The lower price turned out to have a high cost. Fifty years later, this innovation leaves a legacy of microplastics polluting our planet.
Better Flags was founded to change that, together with its sister company Hemptex®. Today both materials fly under one flag: Hemptex®, the world's first hemp flag textile and the premium, regenerative choice, and CiCLO®-enhanced polyester, the cost-efficient path to the same goal. Our Solution to Microplastics
Microplastics harm ecosystems and show up in our bodies. Currently the world is learning about the consequences: inflammation, oxidative stress, DNA damage, and organ dysfunction in animals and likely in humans as well. Polyester flags, even when made from recycled PET, are part of this problem, with over 150 million flags purchased in the US alone.

Hemptex® is the world's first flag textile made of hemp. Grown by smallholder farmers at the foot of the Himalayas, woven into a dense 150 g/m² natural fabric and printed double-sided with pigment inks by Hollanders Printing Solutions in the Netherlands. No polyester, no microplastics, ever.
It also looks and feels different. Hemp prints matte, the colours sit deep in the fibre and the fabric waves a little slower than polyester: calm, premium, with a higher UV resistance so the colours stay vivid longer. This isn't just about switching fabrics, it's about shifting systems.
